We will give funds to support the Radiography program at Southwestern (Haywood County residents attend in Sylva or Asheville for their training). Their equipment is outdated, and they need updated equipment to help their trainees be adequately prepared to enter their field. They need $35,000, so other organizations and individuals also need to contribute.
Good Samaritan Clinic—assist with funds/grants for medications for uninsured patients
Reach of Haywood County—a nonprofit organization that offers assistance to victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse
Mother’s Connection—scholarship support for mothers of newborns attending classes taught by parenting experts (Beth Wall and Marion Lane). Mothers’ Connection promotes parenting skills and networking with other new parents.
Teen Mom Layettes: We will be assembling gift boxes for teen moms. The maternal social worker at the Health Department will be delivering these on home visits. We will bring an item (baby blanket, toy, diapers (can be purchased through the hospital), onesies, hats, bib, sleeper, gown, etc..). Almost one quarter of the county lives below the poverty line. This program began because a baby went home from the hospital only wearing her father's t-shirt. |
